assignment
NYGARD int. 1) Observation: Front window/entry lack impact

Analysis: natural light from outside is overshadowed by reflections on the displays

Solution: Provide a solid backdrop; may require a sheer background... color fitting to the display and/or season, accompanied by ambient lighting reflecting on it

2) Observation: Three differing styles in the store

Analysis: 1. modern, 2. high-tech, and 3. natural/ country styles are not boldly stated so appear unsure and fail to make a strong statement, with each style only achieving half of its potential

Solution: ideally, a mix of styles can exist well together as long as the designer works to provide a more intimate, homey feel
Observation: aisle-ways feel claustrophobic in some sections

Analysis: requirement of .... feet of space is the minimum for an individual to feel comfortable with their personal space (the minimum width increases with individuals over 45-years of age)

Solution: widening the aisle spaces will prevent clients from moving away from an area due to discomfort and will also help prevent petty thefts by making it difficult to conceal actions behind racks of clothing or by hiding stolen merchandise in bags.

Note 1: discount hunters are not as concerned about this level of personal space as they are often quite self-absorbed by the thrill of uncovering a bargain

Note 2: clean displays give the clients a sense of focus and organization; there are great displays ......

Services will be billed at hourly rate depending on the complexity of the projects.

3) Observation: store entrance reveals a nice clean style with a clear view of the merchandise

Analysis: a flat screen TV, with pictures and catalog slide-show, is a great idea and should be taken to a higher level

Solution: add an interactive retail innovation that will capture the clients attention; for example: when the client touches a piece of garment.... the display suggests items to buy in addition to the original garment, give sales staff a useful tool to generate more revenues, and allows head office to control and synchronize all styling looks for the season, as well as inventories

Note 1: the monitor / tv screen should not only be interactive but should dominate the display; similar technology is available on.... (i.e....conventions, etc) yet is not in use in retail stores; would be the talk of the retail and tech worlds, "Retail technology goes 21st century!"
Note 2: furniture needs a clean, sleek look in order to fit with the high-tech style of the display; Barcelona chairs have a sharp, clean square look, or big comfy armchairs, with warm bright-coloured cushions for color, would give an intimate, homey feel, without it feeling like a "having tea with grandma in the old west" moment

Note 3: better accessories than urns would be boxed plant pots, added to the balcony in abundance to create the look of a rain forest and make a statement!

Note 4: Collectibles used as centerpieces are over-powered by the large, bright billboard and lose any desired impact

Note 5: Mannequins need to be rise up, giving them a more prominent placement in the displace; using a frosted electric light platform would aid in bringing much needed light to the display and would highlight its showpieces
